Andrae Crouch: My Own Tribute

Andrae

I thank God for the mountains, I thank Him for the valleys And I thank Him for the storms He’s brought me through ‘Cause if I’d never had a problem I’d never know that God could solve them I’d never know what faith in His word can do. -"Through It All"  by Andrae crouch I’d say he built all of us up, some a little, some, like me, an awful lot. Music permeates, after all, so when musicians birth great songs, they settle into our lives and literally become part of us. That’s why you can still remember tunes that got you through a rough Continue Reading

A Puppy in the Aftermath

Of course I’m zoned out, aren’t you? Yesterday’s carbs have fully kicked in, and that alone constitutes a Christmas hangover. But there’s so much more contributing to what I often call the Aftermath, December 26, when everything sags, caves, goes to bed. The annual combination of family, worship, partying, binge eating, giving and getting creates a massive emotional and chemical high to recoup from, and normally the day after finds me numb and lethargic. The Transsexual Dilemma – Part 4 of a 5 Part Series

Gender

The growing support for transsexualism in the culture, plus the growing number of voices within the Church calling for us to not only to show respect and compassion to transsexuals (a very sound idea) but approval as well (wrong option) has prodded me to post, in a five-part series, an article I wrote on the subject six years ago for the Christian Research Journal. (You can find the entire article it in its original form here)   Continue Reading

The Transsexual Dilemma: Part 3 of a Five Part Series

The growing support for transsexualism in the culture, plus the growing number of voices within the Church calling for us to not only to show respect and compassion to transsexuals (a very sound idea) but approval as well (an unsound option) has prodded me to post, in a five-part series, an article I wrote on the subject six years ago for the Christian Research Journal.    (You can find the entire article it in its original form here)   Continue Reading

The Transsexual Dilemma: Part 1 of a 5-Part Series

Gender

Six years ago I wrote an article on transsexualism – a person’s identification with the opposite sex (“I’m a woman in a man’s body”) or the act of surgically or cosmetically living as if you were a member of the opposite sex. At the time I was concerned about the challenges it poses to the modern Church, so the Christian Research Journal,  a publication for which I’m blessed to be a contributing writer, commissioned an article from me on the topic. Sound Doctrine: Endangered Species, Essential Structure

Sound doctrine

All a man, a church or a denomination needs to guarantee deterioration of doctrine is to take everything for granted and do nothing. The unattended garden will soon be overrun with weeds.  -A.W. Tozer I once heard a wise Rabbi say, “It’s no mystery how things happen. They’re allowed to happen, that’s how.” Continue Reading

James Foley, ISIS and Wrath

man artistic blur

“For the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God.” - James 1:20 You’ve seen the photo by now, maybe even the video: an American journalist kneeling seconds before his utterly senseless, depraved execution. James Foley’s murder is just the latest link in a chain of outrages committed by this monstrosity called ISIS, a group representing Islamic extremism at its worst and man at his most depraved. Swift and strategic action is called for. So is disgust, heartbreak and prayers for the Foleys, and righteous anger generating whatever Continue Reading

ISIS, Charles Manson, and Redemption

Cross in the Dark

“Be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.” -Romans 12:21 It doesn’t sink in easily. Whole families are being slaughtered, children are executed in the most barbaric of ways, and the evil which is ISIS seems all too proud of what the rest of us recoil from. It’s very, very hard to believe the photos and videos making the rounds today are authentic. Surely it’s a repulsive joke; nobody could really do that. Continue Reading

Assessing Matthew Vines “God and the Gay Christian” Pt.V

Vines

“The messages he had received referred to articles or news items which for one reason or another it was thought necessary to alter, or, as the official phrase had it, to rectify.” -George Orwell, 1984  When plain truth condemns what we love, our choices are few. We can abandon what we love in obedience to the truth, we can rebel openly against the truth, or we can attempt to re-write the truth to appease our conscience and silence our critics. When we choose Option 3 we join Winston, the main character in Orwell’s classic 1984 quoted above, Continue Reading
